SELECTION PROCESS:
Managers:
To be considered as an All-Star Manager you must be an OCGSA registered volunteer for the Spring 2024 Season and be in good standing with league. Each potential candidate MUST fill out an “All-Star Manager” application, which can be found on the league website. ALL APPLICATIONS ARE DUE 4/20/2024 and must be emailed to President@ocgsa.com and executivevp@ocgsa.com
Players: Tryouts will be held for each division which will be ran by the Selected Managers with support from the Board. After the tryout is complete, the Managers will submit their rosters which will be reviewed by the board before being finalized. We are optimistic that we can produce a “Gold” and “Silver” All-Star team for most divisions. The formation of Silver teams will depend on the talent level that comes to tryouts. SILVER TEAMS ARE NOT GUARANTEED.
COMMITMENT:
While participation in OCGSA All-Stars is completely voluntary and doing so is a privilege to represent your league, it involves much more than a normal Spring Season. As a member of the team, each parent and player must recognize the commitment involved and accept certain requirements. The purpose of this letter/agreement is to notify you of the expectations of an All-Star team member. The All-Star Agreement between parents/players/managers/coaches and spectators is listed below:
• Players/Parents are expected to attend ALL practices, games, and fundraising.
• Players/Parents are to hold an open communication with the all-star manager during the all-star season.
• ALL participants will be expected to uphold the OCGSA code of ethics, which was adopted from USA Softball of SoCal, on and off the field.
“ALL-STAR SEASON” The season will run from early May through Mid-July. Nationals (10U & up) runs through Mid-August. There are tournaments available almost every week. The teams can choose to attend extra tournaments provided the All-Star committee has approved them. Tournaments may begin on Friday and run through Sunday or occasionally Monday. Usually, at least 3 games are guaranteed. Tournament play is much different from regular league play. Be ready for rule differences, intense competition, and a stronger focus on winning.
TOURNAMENT PLAY DEMANDS A SERIOUS TIME COMMITMENT. Players and parents must commit to being part of a team, which means being at all practices and games. Teams may also hold outings, or other “team bonding” events, full participation is expected. Depending on the manager, practices can be as many as 4 times a week. BE READY FOR IT! The manager may decide to enter the team into other tournaments that are not listed or paid for by OCGSA, and the team will be responsible to fund entry fees.
Any absences must be relayed to the manager or coaches in advance. No unexcused absences are allowed, the player/parent will be subject to removal from the team following an unexcused absence (No Refunds) and you will jeopardize player eligibility for future competitive play. All-Star players may NOT participate in other softball programs once after March 31st, 2024 and for the duration of the All-Star season.
FINANCIAL COMMITMENT
Participation in the All-Star Season involves travel, and should you be selected to participate on an All-Star team, each parent must recognize this and will be responsible for all expenses, including meals and overnight accommodations, if necessary, registration fees, extra equipment, extra apparel, and extra tournament fees. If teams qualify, OCGSA will pay the registration fees to the State and National Championships. If your daughter is selected onto an All-Star team, both you and her must be available for the mandatory Parent Meeting and uniform sizing. Payment for the All-Star season dues will be collected in-full at the meeting.
The estimated dues for each player will be from $600-$700, which includes Uniforms, pictures, equipment bags, helmets, and 5 tournaments (including Districts). Each player will also be expected to participate in all team fundraisers. All teams will use fundraisers to generate funds to offset team costs and use toward more tournaments. All-Star Parents are urged to seek sponsors and will be required to work fundraisers/events for their team. Optional items may be required on a team-by-team basis and could include: cleats, practice shirts, etc.
The Player Numbers will be assigned by the team manager, but each player will be asked for three choices with their first choice being given if there are no duplicate requests.
PERSONAL CONDUCT
It is a privilege (not a right) to participate on an OCGSA All-Star Team. You will travel to other cities and represent not only Orangecrest Girls Softball but also the City of Riverside. Proper conduct always is mandatory. Orangecrest Girls Softball has adopted a Zero Tolerance program. It encompasses the conduct of players, coaches, parents and fans, and is fully set forth in our Code of Conduct and code of Ethics which can be found at our website www.ocgsa.com This policy applies at all Team practices, games or Tournaments, team parties, etc. regardless of the location and encompasses the entire facilities of each. Non-compliance of this policy will result in IMMEDIATE disqualification of eligibility for All-Stars and dismissal from team. (NO REFUNDS)
Your player was approved by the board of directors and the all-star manager to represent this community; this privilege should not be taken lightly. We understand that people make mistakes, and that life happens; our teams may get “bad calls” or a spectator may not agree with the manager’s decisions, or a family emergency may come up, with that said, the all-star committee is always available to handle any issues/concerns that may arise throughout the season. The committee operates under the guidance of the all-star committee. If at any time it is discovered that any information offered by or on behalf of a player and set forth on this form is falsified, it will result in your IMMEDIATE disqualification of eligibility and dismissal from the team. (NO REFUNDS) In addition to the above, the Parent Code of Conduct received and acknowledged at the time of league registration remains in effect.
